The amazing *free* Ebook list (2)

Some of you may know that I am Dutch, a thing that is said often about the Dutch is that we are cheap, so maybe this is why I love free books but I do actually really love them. Some of the books I have read but haven't had the time to write a review for, but all I can say is that I did really like them and a review will follow shortly.

The Book Blogger Test

The Book Blogger Test has been going around for a while. I haven't necessarily been wanting to take part in it but when I saw that  YA Midnight Reads tagged everyone reading their post I just couldn't resist myself.

The rules of the tag are quite simple, you answer the questions and you tag 5 other bloggers.

What are your top three book pet (peeves) hates?
  • Love triangles, I can't even explain how much I dislike them, really, to all authors out there it is no fun reading these, someone always gets hurts and it is somehow always the guy/girl I'm rooting for..
  • I can't handle waiting, so when I start this awesome series and then after reading the first book and sometimes the second I have to wait for over a year for the next to come out, just please shoot me. I just can't handle it!
  • Instant love, it is just not real, this doesn't happen in real life so it also should not happen in books. I always get super annoyed when it happens again and often in protest just want to drop the book and stop reading. I never actually do this, but its just my brain telling me that enough is enough I guess.
See here, the perfect example of instant love, in my favourite movie of the year.

Describe your perfect reading spot.
When I'm at home my favourite place is my bed, however when I find myself at a beach I love laying on a sun bed to read with the waves on the background and I guess this than has to be my perfect spot.

Tell us three bookish confessions.

  • I started the Game of Thrones series, but five pages into the first book I stopped and never started again.
  • Sometimes when I read NA I just feel so naughty because of reading all of those detailed sex scenes.
  • I often forget what happened in a book after a few days and need to read a blurb to get my head on straight again.

When was the last time you cried while reading a book?
Last week whilst reading, Burnouts, Geeks and Jesus Freaks.

How many books are on your bedside table?
I'm in the middle of a big move right now and have to confess that there is no bedside table to put anything on, all the books I plan on reading in the near future are safely stored on my iPad.

What is your favorite snack while reading?
I don't think I really snack during my reading, however the few times I do snack I like eating some crisps.

Name three books you would recommend to EVERYONE.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Miss Me Not by Tiffany King
Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Show us a picture of your favourite bookshelf on your bookcase.
All my books are safely packed up in boxes because I'm moving soon, when I find the time I will upload a picture of my new favourite bookshelf.

Write how much books mean to you in just three words.
3 IS NOT ENOUGH

What is your biggest reading secret?
I sometimes stay in bed all day to read books, I once read three books on one day.

That was it for me, I want to continue YA Midnight Reads trend and tag EVERYONE who reads this.

My favourite summer reads of 2014

PursuitofBooks.blogspot.comIt is that time again *drumroll* time for my favourites! I wanted to bring something to life that would give me the opportunity to show you guys what I like most in our bookish little world. When I found a little time between reading I finally came up with an idea, MY FAVOURITE.

My favourite will be a way of me showing you what my favourites are in the endless world of books. I wanted to start of with something that has been on my mind lately, summer. It is always a bit tricky to find the perfect reads for summer, you don't want to find yourself being bored with your book when you're lying at the beach in a far away country with no internet connection. That is why I started my summer read list for this year. The following books look amazing to me and will be stored on my iPad so that I will be able to take them to wherever I'm going on my holiday. The books are not in a particular order.

♥ Don't  Look Back - Jennifer L. Armentrout

Gwen worries a life of cleaning houses will be her fate too, but just when it looks like she'll never escape her past-or the island-Gwen's dad gives her some shocking advice. Her sentence takes a bearable turn as she discovers the humour and liveability of the campers and grows close to fellow counsellors. Now, if she can just convince a certain Zac Efron look-alike with amazing blue eyes that she finally realises there's life after Gucci, this summer could turn out to be the best she's ever had.

Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend. Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realises it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash. But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

Great by Sara Benincasa

Everyone loves a good scandal. Naomi Rye usually dreads spending the summer with her socialite mother in East Hampton. This year is no different. She sticks out like a sore thumb among the teenagers who have been summering (a verb only the very rich use) together for years. But Naomi finds herself captivated by her mysterious next-door neighbour, Jacinta. Jacinta has her own reason for drawing close to Naomi-to meet the beautiful and untouchable Delilah Fairweather. But Jacinta's carefully constructed world is hiding something huge, a secret that could undo everything. Review: Burnouts, Geeks and Jesus Freaks: a love story

Title: Burnouts, Geeks and Jesus Freaks: a love story
Author: Karen Gordon
Published: March 4th 2014, self published
Add It: Goodreads
Purchase: Amazon

What I think:
I'm always a bit apprehensive when reading a book that is self published, I've read my fair share of horrible edited books with more spelling mistakes than a 6 year old would make. However, Karen Gordon you managed to give me some hope in the self publish department, what a book!

Burnouts, Geeks and Jesus Freaks is a fun and easy read that I loved from the very start. I guess many people can relate to the main character Carrie. Her life isn't easy but she makes the best of it, she has her friends likes going to school, at least she likes the last part of her day and has parties with her friends in the evening. Her home life on the other hand is terrible, I can't even describe how much I hate her parents, I felt so much hatred for them every time they where mentioned, really Karen, you did an awesome job at describing some of the worst parents in the world.

The book is very easy to read, it has a clear storyline, we start with a description of Carrie's life and even go back a few years at some points. I felt like I really got to know her much better because of it. The only thing that I want to comment on is the continuous change with the points of view. I had a few times that I had to go back a bit to find out from who's point of view the story was being told, this could have been way clearer and would have made it a bit easier to read.

Ben was Carrie's next door neighbour ever since she was little, they have been best friends and Ben has had a crush on her for forever. It is a really cute love story and I really like that we get to read from both Carrie's and Ben's point of view. The story was at some points so real, it was not an unrealistic love that happened overnight. Karen had a great way of describing how deep this relationship was, that it was years and years of love and friendship.

I don't want to spoil anything so I'll be short about the ending of the book. All I have to say is that I felt like it was a bit rushed. The whole book was described in a lot more detail, sometimes a few pages took up a whole day. In the end however I felt like I was running towards a finish line being chased by a horde of cows. BUT, I did love the twist in the end, I won't spoil it, you'll have to read it yourself. Overall, a lovely book!

Summary from Goodreads:
They’re burnouts - a little short on parents, money and plans for the future, but they’ve got each other and a whole lot of fun. With a world of crazy at home, Carrie Gould needs them to keep her sanity. To stay in their world she needs to keep dating the guy with the party house, which would be fine, if she hadn’t fallen in love with someone else.
He’s such a geek. Ben Gorman is obsessive, smart, strong-willed and on the fast track to his dream of becoming an Army Ranger. He’s also the only geek with a girl. Joelle Welker is perfect for him; a self-proclaimed Jesus freak, who is dedicated to her beliefs and to building a future with Ben. But those plans don’t include his neighbor, Carrie, or Ben’s dedication to her.
Their friendship started by chance. Their love started with trust.

This is a sweet, silly smart-sexy story of first love and first lovers.

Review: Beautiful Creatures - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Title: Beautiful Creatures
Author: Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Published: January 1st 2009 by Little, Brown and Company
Add It: Goodreads
Purchase: AmazonBarnes and Noble

What I think: I have thought long and hard about writing a review for this book. I think I first read it somewhere in 2010, the good old times when there was no talk about this book being turned into a movie yet. When the movie came out I was one of the first to stand in line to go see it. You won't believe how disappointed I was with the outcome, I could literally cry. After the movie I reread the book, I wanted to find out why the movie was so disappointing to me and hoped to find answers in the book. Unfortunately, I can already tell you, that I just dislike the movie. The main reason is because Ethan is not who I expected him to be, and that was all I could look at.

Now for the book, I did like the book, the beginning was slow and it took me at least 50 pages to really get into the story. However, once I was in, I was truly in. I guess those first boring pages where necessary to explain the characters, to explain what their lives where like and in what kind of setting this book takes place. And I tell you right now, don't stop because you don't think it makes any sense that their talking about this boring town, with this boy, that has incredibly boring friends, or I could better say; friend. Telling you more about this story would be a shame, you have to read it yourself, it might be a bit of a cliche sometimes but their is enough romance, adventure and exhilarating cliffhangers to entertain you for a good few hours.

Now about those characters, at some points I almost felt like I was one of Ethan or Lena. They where immensely good portrayed, even the supporting characters (family and friends) where introduced quite thoroughly. Throughout the story there was almost always one of the supporting characters in the picture, I believe that this makes the story more believable and more real. It wasn't just dialogue between the main characters their was actual depth in this story. All in all, this is a wonderful young adult book that I liked enough to reread!

The other books in the caster chronicles are just as entertaining and exiting and are also on my 'reread' list. I will be rereading them this summer and post a review on them around the same time.

Summary from goodreads:
Is falling in love the beginning . . . or the end? In Ethan Wate's hometown there lies the darkest of secrets . . . There is a girl. Slowly, she pulled the hood from her head . . . Green eyes, black hair. Lena Duchannes. There is a curse. On the Sixteenth Moon, the Sixteenth Year, the Book will take what it's been promised. And no one can stop it. In the end, there is a grave. Lena and Ethan become bound together by a deep, powerful love. But Lena is cursed and on her sixteenth birthday, her fate will be decided.Ethan never even saw it coming.

ARC Review: Myself, Me and I - Jo Allot

Title: Myself, Me And I
Author: Jo Allot
Published: May 5th 2013 by Createspace
Add It: Goodreads
Purchase: AmazonBarnes and Noble

Summary from goodreads:
Hi, I'm Jo. The sole purpose of this book is to share with you a journey; this journey is the story of three people, Myself, Me, and I. You're probably thinking what? Isn't that just one person? I guess technically it is, however the journey I have been on to become the person I am today has been a far from easy one! Throughout the pages I will refer to Myself, Me and I often, so I guess I best try to explain them to help you understand. Myself - is a person I called Annie. She was my eating disorder and came in to my life on September the 8th 1990 when I was 12. She stayed in my life for 18 years, 7 months and 6 days until I was 30. Me - is Joanne - the person I was for nearly thirty one years. Joanne was a girl battling with so many issues that no one had a clue about. To the outside world she came across as confident and bubbly, with no care in the world. WRONG! This was a persona I used to protect myself from being anymore vulnerable and hurt than I already was; or so my screwed up logic would have me think.
I – is Jo, the person I am today. Jo is a 34 year old confident woman who REALLY is happy with her life! So how did I get from Myself to I? A HUG! From someone I hardly knew . . . Four years ago a man walked in to my life and gave me a hug, just when I needed it most. This hug, this simple hug, changed the direction of my life completely, and sent me off on a new, much happier and more productive path.
On Thursday the 28th of June 2012, that man walked in to my life again and I felt compelled to tell him just how profound his hug had been. So I shared some of my journey with him. This is my story.

What I think:
First, Jo is an inspiring woman, it is incredible to overcome the things she writes about but then to put them in words is a whole different story. This is not a book I would usually read, I like fiction, a lot, and this is definitely not it, but the story is intriguing and real and drags you in from the first page.

The author and also the main character has a unique view on life and an interesting sense of humour that can be seen throughout the book. It is a book that will make you laugh and cry and will make you feel grateful for your own life. The whole story is written very well, often when I read non-fiction I find it hard to get into a story and story lines are often very confusing. This book on the other hand had a clear story line, a beginning and an end.

Jo, an applaus for you, you have overcome one of the most horrible diseases out there, and are in my eyes an example for many. Thank you for putting it down in words.

I lastly really need to mention that this is not only a book you can read for fun, it is very educational and I would recommend young girls or boys struggling with eating disorders or just in general with themselves to take a look at this book.

I received an ARC of Myself, Me and I in an exchange for a fair and honest review.

ARC Review: Deceived - Julie Anne Lindsey

Title: Deceived
Author: Jullie Anne Lindsey
Published: September 18th 2013 by Merit Press
Add It: Goodreads
Purchase: Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Summary from goodreads: When Elle's father, a single parent and a big shot in corporate insurance, moves her to yet another boarding school for senior year, Elle is disgusted when nothing changes. Her night terrors don't go away, and, soon, despite her father's caring calls and visits, Elle starts to believe she's losing her mind. She knows she's being followed; a ribbon is tied around her doorknob, and there are those cigarette butts that keep turning up on the doormat, in violation of a strict smoking ban on campus. Then there's Bryan, an intriguing boy Elle meets at a flea market and later finds out is a student at her school. Yet on campus, he pretends he doesn't recognize her - until the day he divulges just how much danger she's in. In her search for an answer to all the madness, Elle unravels the truth about her dad's real identity, why someone has lied to her all her life, and the terrifying truth that she may be the only one who can save her from the one who's following her now.

What I think: I really enjoyed Deceived, even though I'm usually not really into thriller/mystery books but I'm glad I was able to read it in the end.
I was not really fond of the start of the book, it didn't really drag me in and I even had quite a few breaks because the story was just not there yet. When I finally found out what was going on the story got me hooked and I read it in one breath (so I'm really glad I kept on reading!).
There is quite some mystery and they got me thinking about possible outcomes up till the end of the book. The main character Elle is a likeable girl. She isn't very special and doesn't have any abilities that make her more interesting, you could say that she is quite normal. I really liked the fact that the first part took place in a boarding school. For some weird reason I really like books that take place there.

I really don't want to spoil the story by telling too much so I will stop here. I recommend this book to YA mystery/thriller fans.

I received an ARC of Deceived in an exchange for a fair and honest review.
